Lily-Bell

Lily-bell, Lily-bell
Scent as sweet as honey-bee
Pale as moon and pure as snow
Glazed in summer majesty.

If only you rang bolder, well
Then you might be a lily-tree
But now I think that I can tell
It never was your destiny.

Or if a smaller bell did swell
Beneath your emerald canopy
Then you might chime like a snow-drop dropped
On ice of Janu'ry.

Farewell, farewell, fair lily-bell
Scent as sweet as honey-bee
Pale as moon and pure as snow
Glazed in summer majesty.

And if your little lily bells
Should ever toll for me
Then may your little lily knells
Ascend me heavenly.
