Art and footprints
On a sheet of gold
Choose well
Where you stand
To leave your mark
Upon the sand
Not too dry
Where winds may smudge
Like a powder puff
Nor too wet
Where a print may sink
Then flood
And erase itself
Inside a blink
Nor too high
So lovers linking arms
Kicking over waves
Discover not
Nor too low
Where tides of fashion may whitewash
Avoid too heavy a soul
Lest others stumble into the hole
Or too light - too pale
So impressionisms fail.

Art and footprints
On a sheet of gold
Choose well where you stand
I never found the spot
But you! O You!
Walk where you will my sweet
All your footfalls seem
To me to be
A masterpiece.
