What is Love?
What is Love?
The priest’s tale
A priest was approached by one of his flock, who said:
“Once I heard a boy sob
For his persecutor to repent
I felt his whole heart pray
For hope to reveal itself to the world
Yet in his time nothing happened
Still, nobody budges.”
The priest replied:
Can a king ask a pyramid to move a millimetre
Or a tree to transpose its trunk an inch to the right or left?
“But if only my oppressor would only reform!
How annoying his stubbornness!
I feel I might as well say to a prisoner:
Since the day is nice, why not move home?
Do it now, while you have the time! “
The priest replied:
Be glad you are only a visitor to the jail-house
And that you are a bird of the skies.
“But if only my enemy came to me on bended knee!
I would dismiss his debt with a wave of my hand
Because of what I know: That forgiveness is the power of love
Except my persecutor does not come to me
He does not even understand that he has done a bad thing
What should I do?”
Let Jesus plead for him.
“What part for me!”, cried the man
“If Jesus plead, and God forgive, but to suffer!”
‘To love The One who pleads for you, even now
For His suffering I know you have seen.’
