The birthday card

A boy and girl chose a birthday card together
It was for a beloved relative
They were so pleased, they took it home
And examined it on the veranda:
WATCH THIS!
A voice said to the boy
And immediately the card slipped from the girl’s hands
Into the abyss
Between the boards
The girl took chopsticks
The boy abandoned hope
Premonition’s horror!
From the kitchen
And brought it up
Like tweezers.
Presently the boy, the voice understood:
Those who are beyond hope
Can be recovered
Those who are beyond sight
Can be restored
Those who are beyond belief
Can be made well.
