What is Love?

Old fisherwoman

An old fisherwoman met a girl looking out to sea
‘Girl’, said the fisherwoman, ‘Why do you weep?’
Because, said the girl, He is gone!
‘Then you are in love’, said the fisherwoman
‘And your tears truths, proof that you shall never be parted.’
How can that be?
‘Because there is only one love in the end
And what can be parted from itself?’
Why do I suffer then?
‘In the defence of love’, answered the fisherwoman
Who are you?, asked the girl.
‘I am the peregrine
And the pigeon that it chases.’
Is it true?
The old woman replied:
‘Child, do you think Heaven measures time like you?
Come back tomorrow and I will show you.’
The next day the girl went directly to the shore
And found the old fisherwoman
Holding the whole ocean in her hands
And the fisherwoman’s tears
Were no longer invisible to her.
