What is Love?
What is Love?
Gifts
See this baby in the womb
She knows nothing of consonants and vowels
Commas or apostrophes
Floating nowhere and nowhen
Oblivious of our globe
Though her heart is schooled
In the art of laughter
Her mind made up
By an act of love.
Encompassing as sunlight
Natural as water
Abundant as air
Attractive as gravity
Everywhere and nowhere
Always moving something somewhere
Love has taught you all you need to know
Unbeknown, oblivious to her rays
Now she schools you
In all Her wondrous ways
Forget what you have learned
Except that which you were taught
Before you were born
O Wonderful One
You pick me up like a marionette
Make me dance in my sleep
In a far-flung place
I call home.
Though I am folded up
Like an origami egg
(The world has made a liar of us all)
I feel no shame, in how I’m made
In how God made me
In His beautiful Image.
As every life reveals
Another corner of His Kingdom
Surely we have all received
The gifts for which we have asked.
