What is Love?
What is Love?
Bubble and the sword
Once a bubble fell out of favour with itself:
‘You are an awkward fellow to get along with, it said
I shall entertain you no longer!’
So it floated to the Sword-of-Damocles
‘Damocles’, it said, ‘I wish you to separate me from myself!’
‘Preposterous’, replied the sword, ‘How can anyone be separated from themselves? What would you be?’
‘Happy’, said the bubble.
So the sword struck the bubble, right down the centre line, and on the one side there was the ocean, and on the other the sky.
Ocean and sky moved restlessly day and by night
Because their souls longed to be together.
‘As rainbows are bridges’, said the sword
‘Not until eternity.’
Which is why sailors gaze at the horizon still
A line so fine - so absurdly straight
That all of heaven
Sits upon their shoulders.
